Installation (macOS)

Download and launch​

  1. Go to the Releases page or the download link on the website.

  2. Download the latest macOS .dmg file, for example Melvec-0.0.1.dmg.

  3. Open the downloaded .dmg file. A Finder window will appear showing the app icon and an Applications folder shortcut.

  4. Drag Melvec.app into the Applications folder.

  5. Optional but recommended: eject the disk image by clicking the eject button next to it in the Finder sidebar.

  6. Open the Applications folder and double-click Melvec.

Problems in install in macOS ?​

When launching our app for the first time, macOS might present a warning stating that the app "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified" or is from an "unidentified developer."

🛡️ Verified, Signed, and Notarized by Apple​

Please be assured that our application is completely safe. The app has been officially code-signed and notarized by Apple. This means Apple has scanned the underlying code, verified our official developer identity, and confirmed that the software is completely free of known malware.

Because the app is distributed directly from our platform rather than through the Mac App Store, macOS Gatekeeper occasionally triggers a default local warning prompt. You can safely bypass this prompt using either of the two quick methods below.

This is the fastest way to register the app as safe on your system:

  1. Open Finder and locate the app (typically found in your Applications folder).
  2. Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click the app icon (or simply right-click it).
  3. Select Open from the context menu.
  4. A new verification window will appear. Click Open one final time.

Note: This creates a permanent trusted exception on your Mac. The app will open normally via standard double-clicking moving forward.

Method 2: Allow via System Settings​

If the contextual menu shortcut does not display, you can manually authorize the app execution through your security settings panel:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your desktop screen and select System Settings.
  2. Click on Privacy & Security in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Scroll down to the Security section.
  4. You will see a dedicated log stating our app was blocked. Click the Open Anyway button next to it.
  5. Enter your Mac login password or use Touch ID to authorize the change.
  6. Click Open on the final confirmation prompt.

Installing AI models​

If you want to use AI-powered features to improve search, go to Settings > Advanced and enable AI. You will be shown three quality tiers of AI models. Choose the tier that best matches your system capabilities and your needs. This installation can be done any time after you set one of the root library path.

You can refer to the tech specs page in this documentation to help decide which model tier is suitable for your system. Each tier includes multiple AI models, and you will need to download them before the features become available.

Choose the right model for your system​

Basic

These models are smaller, run faster, and provide decent accuracy. They support only English and offer basic scene detection.

Choose this tier if you want basic AI features, need to save storage space, or are running Melvec on an older Mac. It is also suitable if you do not need support for other languages and are comfortable correcting results when needed.

Standard

These models are larger, typically over 5 GB, and provide better capabilities for visual description, audio transcription, and multilingual support.

Choose this tier if you have a capable system, need support for multiple languages including major Indian languages, and want better results with fewer errors.

Advanced

These models go a step beyond the Standard tier. They can capture more nuance in both audio and visuals, and generate richer, more detailed descriptions. They are slower and require significantly more system resources.

Choose this tier if you want the best offline video analysis possible and your system has enough performance and storage to handle it.

Use the download button to download the required models. You can cancel the download at any time. Additionally if you may choose to download models from more than one tier or delete any existing tier.

Notes: Model downloads may take some time depending on your internet speed. We recommend keeping your system connected to power during the download. Since these models can be large, a fast and stable network connection is recommended.
